Prolotherapy

Prolotherapy in Lancaster, PA

Find pain relief quickly and improve your mobility with prolotherapy injections for arthritis, joint pain, ligament tears, and more.

Engage your body’s natural healing abilities

If you’re in Lancaster and experiencing joint or back pain, find relief with prolotherapy at Makrides Aesthetics. Prolotherapy is a regenerative injection joint treatment that repairs ligaments in injured joints and connective tissue to reduce pain and stiffness.

By injecting small amounts of “irritant” substances like dextrose (sugar), saline, and a numbing agent, prolotherapy triggers the body to react to that substance by initiating a healing response. This response improves health and growth in both tendon and ligament fibers with little to no side effects.

What to expect at our prolotherapy office in Lancaster

Our Lancaster-based doctor will take the time to get to know you and your problem. After an initial assessment, we’ll decide whether prolotherapy injections suit you.

If prolotherapy is indeed the proper treatment for you, our providers will give you a few steps to take before your injection.

How to prepare for prolotherapy treatments

  • Eat a meal high in protein before your injection
  • Stop taking anti-inflammatory medications three days before your treatment
  • Before injection, a prolotherapy provider will clean your skin with alcohol and apply a numbing cream
  • A local anesthetic will be applied before the injection

What to expect after prolotherapy treatment

After a brief 30-minute procedure, you will be asked to rest for a few minutes by one of our doctors. After you’re cleared to leave, you can expect mild stiffness or swelling following the procedure, which can last up to a week. With clearance from our doctors, you may resume normal activity on the same day as your procedure.

Our team recommends you receive three to six rounds of prolotherapy injections every four weeks.

How do I know prolotherapy is right for me?

Prolotherapy is an all-natural treatment that is great for strengthening joints and reducing pain in afflicted areas. Living a pain-free life is the first step in building regular activity habits, strengthening your body, and beginning a path to healthy living.

However, if you suffer from chronic illness, prolotherapy may not be suitable for you. Patients who suffer from chronic illnesses may not see results. For chronic pain and mental health issues, treatments like
ketamine therapy are likely better suited for your needs.
